@Lovett/Sweeney/Johanna

johannabarkerof-fleet-street:

Johanna slowly backed away from Mr. Todd.  Terrified of what she had just done.  ”M-Mother…”  She said softly running to Lucy and wrapping her arms around her mother’s waist.  ”I stopped Mr. Todd from killing the Judge.  He would go to jail again.  He can’t leave us, he just can’t!”  Johanna’s words sped up as she started sobbing.

“Now he’s gone and he knows!  Mother he knows!  I’ve ruined everything and-”  Her words trailed off as her sobs got louder.  ”I’m so sorry.  Mrs. Lovett are you alright?  I’m so s-sorry.”

Lucy wrapped her arms around her daughter. “I’m just so glad you’re safe…and we’re together again, and that’s what matters.” She stroked her daughter’s hair. “I’m so proud of you for stopping Mr. Todd. You were so brave. And you’re right, he would go to jail again and we have to stay together.”

She looked up at Mrs. Lovett and Mr. Todd. “We have to get out of London. As long as we’re here, it’s not safe for any of us.”

Sweeney didn’t even notice as the other two women burst into the room. He slowly sat down on the bed, hands shaking in anger as he stared down at the razor clutched in his hand. He had the judge again… had him. He could have killed him. The judge could be dead and they could all be leaving London, never having to worry about anything from their past again. No one would know of the little family. They could start life over some where out in the country. His whole body shook as he fought to keep his anger inside, eyes closing. He had him.

@Sweeney and/or Johanna

yougandered:

What the devil… There was the distinct sound of the front door opening and closing, and then the skittering of petite shoes scampering away. That untrustworthy little -

The bedroom door swung open, and out burst Sweeney, razor in hand, ready to lash out. Turpin pivoted on his foot to face the barber. He raised his own weapon - the rolling pin he’d stolen from Mrs. Lovett’s shop - in defense from possible attack.

“You maniac!” The judge hissed. “How did you even get in here?” He was told there was only one key to the room (which he himself was in possession of). Sweeney seemed to brush off the question and just continued forward.

Turpin leaped over to where Johanna was sitting and held her in front of him as a human shield. “You want me? You have to go through the girl first!”

Sweeney reached out with his free hand and pulled Johanna from his grip, her sleeve ripped in the judge’s hand but she was away and safe he pushed her towards the door. “Downstairs! Go!” He barked, dark eyes trained on the judge. His gaze burned with all the fury of a thousand demons. He was madder than he had ever been. He advanced towards the judge, razor up and ready, unafraid of the simple wooden rolling pin the other held.

“You took everything from me. My wife, my daughter, my happiness. And you tried to do it again.” He growled, nothing was going to stop him this time. “I should have killed you back at the pie shop. But not to worry, I’ll finish what I started.”

Mrs. Lovett was totally indignant and bewildered at the fact that she’d just been stuffed in the closet, and only stopped her wild kicking and pounding because her hands and feet were becoming sore, certainly not because the Judge had asked. The sweaty old handkerchief tasted horrid. She leaned against the door in exasperation, hoping she wouldn’t be left there to rot, when the Judge said something through the door. Why is he yelling at me again? she wondered. She heard him trudge out of the kitchen and neared the closet, then stop and turn. Suddenly, the closet door was thrown open and she nearly fell into the Judge, but he caught her and gruffly stood her up, barking directions at her. It was a definite relief to have the handkerchief out of her mouth, but now she had quite a bit more to worry about than rotting away in a closet.

How am I supposed to get rid of him? I didn’t actually think he’d come in the first place, but now that he’s here, he won’t leave wtihout Johanna, whether I have anything to do with it or not. Her thoughts ran fervently left and right as there was a gruff knock on the door. She cleared her throat quietly, placed her hand on the door knob and leaned on the frame. As she opened the door it took all her might not to just run down stairs and flee the country, but she instead focused on Mr. Todd, narrowing her eyes, putting on a smirk and saying “Yes?” in an almost seductive tone. It wasn’t much of a plan, but it was all she had.

Sweeney put a finger to his lips to tell her to be quiet. He wasn’t surprised to see Mrs.Lovett there, the judge was too much of a coward to face him face to face. Sweeney pulled her out of the room by her arm, making sure they were where the judge couldn’t hear their whispers. “Get downstairs, the young lad behind the counter will take care of you, she’s down there. I’ll get Johanna.” He said, giving her a small shove down the hallway before entering the hotel room. He closed and locked the room door behind him, advancing towards the only closed door where he presumed the judge was hiding. He slipped the key into the doorknob, unlocking it with a loud click. He threw the door open, razor at the ready.

Lucy nodded, a little comforted that he had mercy on the good people in London. She took his hands. “I understand.” She was also comforted that she never ate one of Mrs. Lovett’s pies, even when she lived on the street. The woman always kicked her out of the shop when she came looking for scraps. She’d never eaten…human…thank goodness.

“I trust you won’t hurt us,” Lucy said quietly. “I’m just…a little afraid. Please don’t be angry with me. Please understand. What you’ve told me is still unsettling…and revolting. But you’re my husband…and we must save our daughter. I’ll go with you.”

“Understandable.” He said when she said she was afraid. “But we can talk about this later, right now we have two ladies to save.” He said, pulling her along outside, his stride hurried as he headed in the direction that the Judge had gone. His eyes darkened as his mind worked. Where would he have gone if he had just kidnapped two girls. He needed a place where it wouldn’t be questioned, with enough room to hide the two of them if someone came in. The Judge had money to spend, that was for sure. The Waldorf.

Sweeney pulled Lucy in to the lobby, going up to the front desk. “I need to know if Judge Turpin purchased a room here today.” He said in a low and dangerous voice. The young lad at the front counter turned, shakily checking in the log books.

She smiled a little, happy that her husband took her reaction well. Better than she expected. Although she didn’t completely react the way she thought she should. She should be disgusted and running away, taking Johanna with her. But her love for her family kept her close. Even though they’d all changed. Maybe she should be understanding. Sweeney promised he didn’t hurt bad people, so maybe he really was ridding London of evil. And no men were more evil than the Judge. And she was also grateful that he wasn’t totally repulsed by her changes…

Being pulled along with him hurt a little. She was too weak to truly run, but she ran  nonetheless, ignoring her weakness and her pain. She didn’t want to slow him down. Her stomach was still turning a little from the revelations, but she promised herself she wouldn’t be sick. There was no time for it…

Lucy pulled her cloak over her face. Was she really about to face Judge Turpin in a room here? Would he even recognize her? She hoped not. That’s why he must not see her. She silently watched her husband address the young man at the desk, admiring his fearlessness and his command of the situation.

Sweeney grabbed the spare key to the room that the man said the judge was in. He turned to Lucy. “Stay down here. This man will protect you, hide. I’ll come back for you just as soon as I take care of things upstairs.” He said, pulling her softly to him and kissing her. “I love you, Lucy.” He said, letting go and hurrying up the stairs to the room where the judge was.

Lucy didn’t miss the softness of his gaze, and she saw Benjamin Barker there. But that familiarity was smashed as soon as he spoke again and told her the secret. Her eyes grew wide and then she looked down at the floor. Horrified, shocked…her husband was doing horrible things.

She took a step back and spoke quietly. “Ben, please…” She corrected herself. “Mr. Todd, I mean.” She knew he could never be Ben again to her, and felt her heart break a little more. Her husband was dead…but here he was at the same time. “I can’t say that the Judge doesn’t deserve to be punished…for what he did to us, for everyone else in this town that he destroys…but everyone else? How could you? There are good people out there…I know we don’t see them much but…they are out there.”

Lucy wanted to reach for him, to comfort him, to change him, but she was too afraid. “You’ll never hurt me or Johanna will you? Please don’t let this rage take over…please love us…”

“No, Lucy no. Never the good ones, never the honest men. Only those that take advantage of others, those that take from others for their own gain.” He explained, taking a step towards her, eyes softening again as Benjamin pushed his way back to the surface as he spoke. His voice was soft and sweet, not the harsh voice that Todd used.

“Never hurt you. Never you, never Johanna. Never.” He cooed softly, holding his hands out for hers. “Lucy you need to trust me. You need to come with me, we need to find Johanna and Mrs.Lovett. Who knows what the judge might be doing to them at this very moment. I will not let him take my family from me, not again.”

Sweeney hadn’t heard anything from down stairs for awhile, he frowned. Something was off. He grabbed another razor, slipping it into his belt. He clutched one in his hand, boots clunking down the stairs. He stopped when he only saw Lucy, frowning a little. “Lucy, where’s Johanna and Mrs.Lovett?” He asked, his frown becoming more prominent.

Something wasn’t right, it was too quiet and the other girls weren’t coming up stairs. He grabbed Lucy’s hand, dragging her down the stairs with him. The door was wide open, and no one was there. It wasn’t right. He turned to Lucy. “We’ve got to go find them. I can’t leave you here, you’ll be safer with me. First, there’s something you should know about me.” He said, moving her to sit in a booth, sitting across from her.

Lucy was staring out the window in her upstairs room when Mr. Todd burst in. She’d watched in horror as Judge Turpin took Mrs. Lovett and Johanna away with him. She was alone now. She had to hold onto the windowpane to keep upright, she was shaking so hard. Tears streamed down her cheeks.

“He took them…He dragged them both away with him. They’ll be back for me. What if they tell him we’re here? What if we’re parted again?” All she wanted was to cling to him, her husband…but then it dawned on her what he said. We’ve got to find them. I can’t leave you here, you’ll be safer with me. He wanted her to come with him! Suddenly she felt more included and even a bit more loved, and safer.

“What must I know?” She was afraid to hear the answer already. Her husband frightened her enough, and now she was sure he was going to tell her something awful.

He took a deep breath. “Have you ever wondered what makes the pies so good, what secret ingredient keeps the customers coming back time after time, and why I won’t allow you and Johanna to have one?” He started off, for the moment his gaze was soft, there was a bit of anger still burning in them, but this was as close to Benjamin that Sweeney had come since he’d found out what happened to Lucy and Johanna. He figured that Lucy was going to freak out at this next part.

“People, Lucy. People is what makes the pies so good. I kill them, slit their throats upstairs, send them down to the basement where Mrs.Lovett grinds them up and bakes them into the pies.” He laughed a little ironically. “And that’s exactly what I’m going to do to the judge. But he won’t have a swift death like the others, oh no. He’s going to be made to suffer like he deserves, like he has made every single person in this family suffer!” He shouted the last part, the anger returning as his eyes darkened again.
